Field study data shows that a lot of cat owners will start to see a significant reduction in stress signs within the first 7 days. However, every cat is unique. Depending on how long the signs of stress have been present and their severity, it may take longer to see the effects. We recommend using FELIWAY Optimum for at least 1 month.

FELIWAY Optimum provides a message of enhanced serenity. Most cats will benefit from the permanent presence of this message in your home. The minimum recommended duration is one month. 

Living with humans can be challenging for cats as we have busy, changing households and routines. FELIWAY Optimum can be used to comfort your cat at home constantly. FELIWAY Optimum can also help: 

• if your cat shows signs like spraying, scratching walls or furniture
• if your cat shows signs of stress such as hiding, reduced activity, reduced appetite, over grooming
• if you anticipate changes in your home (e.g. moving home, renovation, redecorating, arrival of a new pet, arrival of a new family member…)
• if you have 2 or more cats living with you, and they are showing signs of tension such as chasing, blocking or staring
• if your cats that live together are fighting, even if they have been fighting for a long time

In the room where your cat(s) spends most of their time. Or in the room where tension or conflicts happen most often.

Hallways: Cats spend very little of their time in hallways, so the efficacy would be weaker.(Except if the hallway is the area where scratching or cat spraying is happening most often). Near the litter box: Cats spend very little of their time near their litter box, so the efficacy would be weaker. (If the litter box is in the same room where your cat spends most of their time this is not a problem).If conflict between cats occurs frequently in a hallway, distribution of your cat's’ resources should also be considered within the home to ensure each cat has an easy and free access to a litter box, food and water bowl, resting area, without being potentially blocked by another cat.

• If your cat has no access to a clean litter tray, they will urinate in your home, and FELIWAY Optimum will not help in this scenario. 
• If your cat has no access to a scratching post, they will scratch objects in your home instead (because scratching is an essential need of cats), and FELIWAY Optimum will not help.
• If your cat is urinating, hiding or eating less for medical reasons, FELIWAY Optimum will not help. It is important to consult a veterinarian to rule out any potential medical issues.
• FELIWAY Optimum will not help in cases of tension or aggression towards owners. In such situations, we recommend consulting your veterinarian or a behaviourist. 
• If your cats do not have access to an individual food/water bowl and litter box, competition for resources remains and the tension between your cats will continue.

If conflict between cats occurs frequently in a hallway, distribution of your cat's’ resources should also be considered within the home to ensure each cat has an easy and free access to a litter box, food and water bowl, resting area, without being potentially blocked by another cat.

• If your cats do not have access to an individual food/water bowl and litter box, competition will not resolve and the tension between your cats will continue

• If the conflict between your cats is associated with spraying or scratching in the home, both FELIWAY Friends and FELIWAY Classic are recommended.
• The two diffusers should be plugged in where your cats spend most of their time. They can both be used in the same room.

• Diffusion will be blocked if the diffuser is plugged in:

  • Behind a door

  • Underneath furniture

  • In any socket without 1.20m clear above it

• In a multi-plug or multi-socket adapter

• With an international adaptor

• With an extension lead

• Use 1 diffuser for an area up to 70m².
• Use several diffusers for a large home, or for a multi-floor home

• 1 refill lasts 30 days

It is recommended to replace the refill every 4 weeks, even if a small amount of liquid remains in the vial  (the vial can never be completely empty because the last few drops of liquid are not in contact with the wick to allow the diffusion process)

• 1 diffuser lasts 6 months. Renew the Diffuser every six months to ensure the optimum effect

Within 24 hours, the diffuser will be fully functional and FELIWAY will spread throughout your home.
For situations that can be anticipated, you should plug in the diffuser 2-3 days in advance.

Do not unplug or switch off the diffuser at night.
Your cat is probably awake and active at night!

Leave the diffuser on 24 hours a day. Efficacy is proven in clinical trials with continuous use of the diffuser (24 hours a day) allowing the cat to constantly perceive the reassuring messages.

• FELIWAY refills should never be used with another plug-in device.
• FELIWAY Diffusers should never be used with another refill from another company.
• FELIWAY Classic and FELIWAY Friends refills and diffusers are compatible

FELIWAY Diffusers come with a plug that fits with the local electric systems of the country they have been bought from. They cannot be used in a country with another voltage. They should never be used with an adapter or a voltage converter as it may lead to serious safety issues. Use only in properly functioning 230 - 240V electrical sockets.

Please check before use, that your diffuser has the appropriate plug for your country.

The refills are made of recyclable plastic material (PET).

The diffuser should be checked monthly and replaced every six months to ensure optimum effect.

This product is covered by the European Directive 2002/96/EC on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE): WEE/HG0312WZ.

When plugged into an outlet, the diffuser will get slightly warm, indicating it is working properly.

The diffuser contains a heating element that diffuses the product, so is designed to be warm to the touch.

It is going down, but you can’t see it!
The diffusion of the liquid from the Diffuser is a very slow process. In normal conditions of use, it is difficult to see any change in the vial over the first week of use. Slight variations will occur depending on air turnover.
To make sure your diffuser is working properly, check that:
- The wick is not broken
- The device is turned on all the time (sometimes an electrical outlet is controlled by a wall switch)
- Finally, try the device in a different electrical socket.

The oily vapour (carrying FELIWAY “messages”) rises in a column of warm air above the diffuser. If this rising air is blocked (E.g. under a shelf, table or furniture) the oil may re-condense and leave a visible mark).
DON’T plug the diffuser under any furniture or object protruding from the wall (minimum clear distance above diffuser is 1.20m).

Be careful to plug the diffuser away from the air conditioner, vents, cold air returns, or exhaust fans.  This may result in diffusion at a faster rate and the product may not last the full expected 30 days.

Usage with open windows and doors may result in diffusion at a faster rate. The product may not last the full expected 30 days. In such a case, a different diffuser location should be considered within the house, targeting the area where the cat spends most of its time.

• FELIWAY Classic is not indicated for motion sickness when travelling by car. For this reason, we recommend that your cat should not have eaten for at least 6 hours prior to travel to avoid nausea and vomiting, but do not limit water before travelling
• At home:
• If your cat has no access to a clean litter tray, it will urinate in your home, and FELIWAY Classic will not help.
• If your cat has no access to a scratching post, it will scratch your walls or furniture instead (because scratching is an essential need of cats), and FELIWAY Classic will not help.
• If your cat is urinating, hiding or eating less for medical reasons, FELIWAY Classic will not help.  It is important to consult a veterinarian to rule out any potential medical issues

If you can’t plug FELIWAY Help! a few days beforehand, in order to get the best experience, leave your cat in their carrier for 15 minutes next to the diffuser when you plug it in. Then open the door and let your cat come out when they want to. Leave your carrier here, next to the diffuser, with the door open as this area will then be a reassuring place for your cat to return to during their stay while they are far away from home.  ​

Our diffuser complies with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), European Norms (EN) and Underwriters Laboratories (UL ) required standards. The plastic materials used are self-extinguishing (V2 grade).
When the diffuser is used continuously, we recommend to change it every 6 months for the best results.

FELIWAY is completely safe for dogs.

FELIWAY “messages” are specific to cats. So they are only perceived by other cats, not by dogs.

Some caged birds are known to have sensitive respiratory systems (in particular Psittacines: parrots, budgerigars etc.). Therefore, if you are using a FELIWAY Classic or FELIWAY Friends Diffuser, as a precaution, we recommend plugging in the diffuser in a different room.

FELIWAY is completely safe for fishes.

But as for any in-home diffuser, If you are using a FELIWAY Classic or FELIWAY Friends Diffuser, as a precaution, we recommend plugging in the diffuser in a room that does not have an aquarium.

If the cat spends most of their time in the room with the aquarium, we recommend using an outlet as far from the aquarium as possible. This is only a precaution to avoid oily, diffused active ingredients settling on the surface of the water. The components themselves are not classified as toxic for the environment.
