How your cat feels in our modern life
Cats have natural needs due to their feline nature.
Cats are territorial animals. They like to feel in control of their environment.
They want to freely access any part of their territory and this is especially important for the essentials like eating, toileting, resting and playing.
Cats are also solitary animals. They do not like to share their territory and their essentials with other cats.
How can modern life conflict with cats’ natural needs?
Our modern lifestyle can often conflict our cats' needs.
Read below to see how modern life conflicts with our cat’s top 5 essential needs.
1 Space
Many cat lovers live in an apartment. This can be small, with limited or no access to a garden. This is just the opposite of what cats prefer!
2 Autonomy
Cats are solitary animals and like to be their own boss. Unfortunately our cats do not get to choose where and when they can find their own resources (Food, water, litter and scratching post). Also many cats have to live with another pet, which can cause further conflict.
3 Calm
Cats are calm animals who like routine and definitely don’t like to be surprised. But unfortunately our modern lives are full of a variety and loud noises and can be chaotic.
4 Escape ways
Cats do not like to feel trapped and always like to have an escape route. Having a closed door or window or even another pet or a child on their way represents a big challenge for them. These scenarios are present in many of our modern lives.
5 Stability
Cats like a stability and nothing more than a stable territory in their home. Unfortunately, most of us enjoy traveling, moving home and discovering new locations. This also represents a major challenge for them.
